HIYA is a local registered charity which runs a safe, informal social meeting place for teenagers. "Safe, informal social" means no alcohol, drugs, smoking, bullying - respecting each other and their surroundings. HIYA has a constitution, operating procedures and is affiliated to the Hampshire & IOW Youth Clubs.
To become a member of HIYA the young people have to complete a probationary period of four weeks and during that time they are required to pay 50 pence per visit. On their fourth week (all being well that there is no reason why they should not be a member) they are issued with a membership card with a photograph, name, membership number, date of birth and rules of HIYA on it. The sessions are free however each week the members are required to produce their membership card - failure to do so results in a fine of 50p. Being a full member enables them to sign in a guest - no more than twice a month - guest pay 50p each visit.
HIYA operates totally with local volunteers. More are needed.
There are currently over 350 young people on HIYA’s register and we are always welcoming new members. During the evenings the young people are very much encouraged to enjoy their time together and organise themselves with karaoke, limbo dancing, dance mat competitions, skittles, football, board games, computer games etc etc - with minimal supervision. Or if they prefer - to just sit and chill out and chat to their friends.
Partnership
HIYA is a member of the Horndean & Clanfield Youth Centre Partnership (HCYCP).
