The aim of the survey is to encourage all those who live, work and/or care about Horndean to think about how we all can improve the quality of life in the Parish over the coming years. Please help us by completing the online survey. Printed versions will also be distributed to every household in the Parish and also at several venues in Horndean (including the library and parish council office).

To assist in the completion of each section, HIND has summarised the main findings from the research and put forward possible solutions to local problems wherever possible. This can be read in the attached PDF document below.

There are five sections to the survey; each is concerned with a different aspect of life in Horndean Parish. There is also an opportunity to add residents own comments at the end of the survey.

Our aim is to obtain at least 500 completed surveys by Friday 12th September 2008 as it is very important to us to obtain a representative view of the concerns and hopes of the people of Horndean Parish.

We will be communicating our findings, not only through Horndean.net and the Parish Plan website, but also via EHDC website, Horndean Parish Council newsletter and website and through the media.

What is a parish plan?
A Parish Plan is a statement from people living in the Parish saying:
• How can the future of the village be safeguarded
• What facilities does the village need for the future
• What is important to them in the Parish
• What problems are there that need to be tackled
In other words it is a ‘vision’ for the village for the future, identifying what action needs to be taken to tackle issues, and who should do it.

What will it do?
• It will influence district/county councils when they are making decisions.
• It will influence inspectors during public enquiries or other disputes.
• It will identify potential projects that will require funding and will provide the evidence base to support applications for funding
But, the main thing is, it helps the community to focus on key issues affecting them and helps drive projects forward to sort the issues out.

HIND: Horndean in the Next Decade, is made up of four groups concentrating on specific themes:-
• Economy (village centres, business vitality) village centre provision)
• Environment (street scenes, countryside, climate change)
• Social and Community (leisure facilities, children, housing, health provision)
• Transport (cycle routes, public transport, traffic management)
Horndean In the Next Decade, the Horndean Parish Plan Group, has made significant progress and is now about to launch a period of consultation.

What have we done?
• Organised a number of “planning for real” consultation exercises throughout the Parish
• Undertaken a detailed analysis of all aspects of life affecting residents of all ages
• Undertaken a detailed “needs” study of the business community
• Undertaken a survey of local retailers to evaluate the impact of the A3 bus corridor
• Organised a competition called “my dream village” which engaged schoolchildren in the Parish in the consultation process
• Undertaken a street survey of Horndean village centre

What happens next?
In July 2008, all households in the Parish will receive a survey with a brochure summarising the main issues that the Parish Plan has identified. This consultation will give every resident the opportunity to make their voice heard.
