Horndean Voluntary Care Group
In November 1979, Horndean Voluntary Care Group (originally entitled Horndean Community Care Group) was formed - so you see they have passed their quarter-century and notched up a deal of experience.
During those years, over 200 volunteers have 'passed through' their hands for longer or shorter periods of time and they have undertaken some 6,000 tasks, particularly transport to all kinds of appointments such as hospitals, dentists, GPs surgeries, opticians etc.
One or two of their founder volunteers are still with the Group today.
If you NEED the Group's services, or you can HELP them, please telephone 023 9259 6303 for more information, when you will be assured of a friendly welcome.
Alternatively, if you live in Clanfield where the Care Group is one year older than Horndean, please call 023 9259 4577 when you will receive an equally warm welcome!
Do YOU need assistance?
Should YOU find yourself in need of assistance, you could telephone their duty co-ordinator, who would then contact their volunteers until someone was found to undertake the task requested.
You may perhaps require transport to attend a hospital appointment or your GPs surgery, to visit a loved-one in hospital or just to go shopping - give them a call on 02392 596 303, when they will do their very best to assist you.
Although they prefer to be notified at least 48 hours in advance, they can sometimes fill a need at shorter notice. You will be notified of the name of the person who will arrive and the time of collection, and all their drivers carry an identity card with photograph should you be in any doubt. In order to cover expenses (e.g. drivers' mileage, telephone calls etc.) the Group asks those persons they assist to make a suitable donation.
Can YOU help?
On the other side of the coin, of course, they do need a supply of volunteers to continue their 'good neighbour' service!
Do you have some time to spare and feel able to do your bit for the community by joining the Group's small, but very willing, band of volunteers ... all of whom may claim expenses so no-one need be out of pocket.
It is necessary, in this day and age, for volunteers to submit to a CRB check. Co-ordinators, as implied, require their own telephone line to which the dedicated number (02392 596 303) will be switched when it is their period of duty.
The Group is aware that volunteers have other commitments, so you will always be at liberty to say 'no' to any task requested.
