Newsletter
June 2008

Another Newsletter to bring you up to date on events both past and future. Well, despite the set backs at Horndean Technology College on the Saturday, the 10th Anniversary celebrations were a great success and thank you to all of you who took the trouble to write to the Committee and thank us for all our efforts. Much appreciated. Reports back from France say the same and they all had a good time. We could have done with a few more members of the public looking around though. It was a chance to recruit new members.

I believe the visit to Stansted Park went well on the Friday afternoon and I certainly enjoyed the Dinner at the Bat & Ball on Saturday evening. I thought that the staff up there did very well and I have been in contact with the hierarchy at Fullers (was Gales) to tell them how good it was. We were fortunate that we still have contacts within what was once Gales Brewery and were able to negotiate substantial “sponsorship”. Everything at the Bat and Ball was paid for by our Association, the monies coming from all the funds we raised from events such as Craft Fairs and Concerts. I guess it was pay back time.

Prior to our friends from France coming here a number of us went over to Aubergenville for celebrations there in May. A great weekend and they certainly pulled out the stops for us with a fantastic Firework display on the Saturday night. There was a little ill feeling amongst some of our host who were not allowed to attend the official Dinner and Lunch on the Sunday. Despite that, all in all, a great weekend with great weather!
As for the future the next event is the Annual General Meeting to be held at Napier Hall on Friday 18th July 2008 starting at 7.30 pm.Consider this Newsletter as official notice of the meeting.

Please make every effort to be there, it is very important.

The Agenda is as follows:

Welcome by Chairman.
Apologies for absence.
Minutes of the last AGM and matters arising
Chairman’s report on the passed year
Financial Statement
Auditors report and acceptance of accounts
Election of Committee
Any other business.

After the business of the meeting refreshments will be available and we will be inviting a speaker along to the meeting to entertain and enthral us! The next event is the “Horndean Proms 2008.” This is to be held on September 26th at Barton Hall. Usual start time of 7.30 pm. Ticket £6.00 (£5 conc). As well as the usual fantastic Brass Ensemble, led by Tony Bushnell, it is hope to stage a Dixieland Group and or the Horndean Swing Band. More details later but mark up the date in your diary. That takes us up to Christmas and more details about that in the next Newsletter when more is known about what might be happening in Aubergenville at this time of year. And finally, I have decided it is time to move on and pursue other interest so I am not standing for re-election at the AGM. This is not a spur of the moment decision, I gave notice of my intentions at the last AGM. I accidentally got involved in Twinning as a Parish Councillor nearly 19 years ago and I have been on the committee ever since holding an office of some kind or other all of that time except for when I was Chairman of the Parish Council. Diana and I are not moving away and will still wish to be members of the Twinning Association. Thank you for all your support over the passed years.
See you at the AGM
David
