Our Village - Horndean, Hampshire
Horndean is situated just 10 miles (17 kilometres) north of Portsmouth and 60 miles (100 kilometres) from London. The Ferry Terminal connecting with Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre is only 15 minutes away by car. Public Transport also connects with Portsmouth (for the Ferry Terminal), Havant and Petersfield where trains connect to all parts of the country.
The Civil Parish of Horndean (comprising of the villages of Blendworth, Catherington, Horndean and a part of Lovedean) is in the East Hampshire District of the County of Hampshire. It is a community of approx 13,000 people where many people live and commute to neighbouring towns especially Portsmouth and even to London less than 90 minutes away by train. Being a Parish, local government matters are dealt with by a Parish Council led by a Chairman; there are twelve councillors. The next tier of government is East Hampshire District Council, with four of its members representing Horndean, and above that Hampshire County Council with one representative for Horndean.
Industry
Horndean has industry of its own with the biggest being a Brewery, the home of George Gale & Co. There are over 110 small business and retail outlets from superstores to bicycle shops and hairdressers to car repairs ad Internet service providers. Agricultural farming surrounds the settlements.
Schools
Horndean has several schools educating nearly 2850 children each day ranging from infant school for those starting at 4 years old to sixth form college with students of 18 years of age. The Schools are:
Horndean Infant School = 275 pupils
Catherington Infant School = 100 pupils
Horndean Junior School = 480 pupils
Horndean Technology College = 1,800 pupils
Kings Court (private) School = 80 pupils

There is a place of worship for most of the main religions including the following.

Community Centre & Meeting Places
The Parish is well off for meeting places and has two Community Centres, Horndean Community Centre - at Merchistoun Hall and Horndean Campus. Organisations and Clubs use Lovedean Village Hall, Napier Hall, The Blendworth Centre, Jubilee Hall, Catherington Village Hall and All Saints Church Hall as well as the community centres for their various activities.
Clubs & Organisations include: Keep fit, Aerobics, Photographic, History, Model Railway, Machine Knitting, Bridge, Dance, Football, Tennis, Badminton, Archery, Choir, Short Mat Bowls, Karate, Yoga, All Wheel Drive, Motor Cycle, Twinning Association, Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Cub Scouts, Gymnastics, Youth, China Painting, Pottery, Quilting, Floral, Lace Making, Drama, Amateur Radio, Astronomy, Over 55's & Womens Institute.
Horndean Football Club has its own floodlit pitch and Club House. As well as the many meeting places where organisations and clubs meet there are several open spaces for outdoor activities many of them fitted out with play equipment for young children.
Major tourist attractions throughout the south of England located at London, Chichester, Winchester, Southampton, Salisbury or Stonehenge are easily reached by road from Horndean.
